Such was the case for Dean and Alison Lyng, who mourned the disappearance of their 25-year-old cat, Kizzy, last year. As the days passed without a trace, the couple feared the worst.
Yet, in May, their spirits were unexpectedly lifted when a malnourished and flea-ridden elderly cat was found by a gutter. Rescued by Natasha McPhee, this cat was brought to a local shelter, believed to be a stray due to the absence of a microchip.
The poor cat, unable to move easily due to overgrown nails, received much-needed care at the shelter. Named Moose, she was described as a blind, elderly cat with a voracious appetite.
Natasha posted a picture of Moose on Facebook, hoping someone might recognize her. “Do you recognize this cat?” she asked, noting the cat’s condition and urging followers to share the post, believing Moose could be someone’s missing pet.
Miraculously, Alison saw the post and instantly knew it was Kizzy. Filled with excitement, she reached out to Natasha, and joyfully announced the news: Kizzy’s owners had been found.
After nearly two years, Kizzy was returning home, much to the disbelief and happiness of Dean and Alison.
Following treatment for fleas and ticks, Kizzy was ready to return to her loving home, ready to enjoy her golden years once more. Despite the challenges she faced alone, Kizzy’s survival and reunion with her family are nothing short of extraordinary.
Upon their reunion, Kizzy instantly recognized Dean’s scent, despite her deafness, and meowed loudly in response.
Reflecting on the incredible turn of events, Alison expressed her immense joy: “It’s absolutely brilliant to see her again, but what are the chances?
For two years, she survived without a home or care. Most cats would struggle to live to such an age even indoors, let alone outside alone.”
