Fig, a blind orange and white cat, began his journey in 2017 when he was rescued from Raleigh, North Carolina, and found a loving home in Seattle.
There, he joined another blind feline friend, Honey Bee, who was saved from Fiji in 2014. The two quickly formed a close bond, thriving in their caring environment. Sabrina, who adopted Fig, fondly named him after the distinctive and intriguing fig fruit.
Despite his blindness, Fig indulged in the playful antics typical of any kitten. According to Sabrina, “Blind kittens are just like sighted ones. Fig would burst with energy, playing with toys before settling down for a nap.”
Although Honey Bee passed away in 2020, she left behind a legacy of adventure and joy. Her incredible journey inspired many, and she even graced the pages of a children’s magazine, amassing over a million views on YouTube.
To honor her memory, Sabrina decided to continue rescuing cats in need.
Not long after, Lychee came into the picture—a blind and deaf kitten rescued from Florida, bearing the name of yet another tropical fruit.
Sabrina embraced the opportunity to care for Lychee, expressing her enthusiasm, “This is my first cat who is both blind and deaf, and I’m excited to give her the best life.”
Lychee’s adoption marked a new chapter. Sabrina reminisced about the day they met at the airport, celebrating the occasion as a triumph over the odds for a cat born with such challenges.
After a week of careful introduction, Lychee and Fig quickly became inseparable companions.
The duo finds joy in each other’s company, whether through playful tussles or snuggling with Sabrina.
Lychee, dubbed the “Queen of Smells,” delights in the smells carried by the wind, while Fig enjoys the familiar comforts inside grocery bags and suitcases.
These lovable cats have amassed a following on social media, where their unique bond and antics draw admiration. The journey took a new turn when the family relocated to Thailand.
Fig took on the role of the household’s bug hunter, showcasing his keen sense of awareness.
Lychee, however, faced a challenge after being startled by a landlord carrying the scent of a dog. The incident heightened her anxiety, leading to a need for anti-anxiety medication, which has greatly improved her well-being.
Sabrina highlights that much like humans, animals can face mental health issues, and understanding is key to their happiness.
Fig and Lychee’s story serves as a testament to resilience and the possibilities for a fulfilling life despite disabilities.
