Last April, two Brazilian cyclists, Ladislau Alcántara and Rosilene Jansen, set out on what they thought would be a typical training ride, only to experience an encounter that would change their lives.
During their trip, on a blistering hot day, they discovered a small brown dachshund left alone in a deserted area, clearly suffering and in dire need of help.
The remote spot where they found the dog had offered no food or water, leaving the creature extremely weak. By sheer luck, the cyclists arrived just in time to offer assistance.

“We knew right away he was abandoned,” Rosilene recalled, their concern growing as they realized the urgency of the dog’s situation.
Faced with more than 40 kilometers ahead to reach home, they made the tough decision to rescue the pup. Ladislau took it upon himself to secure the dog in his hydration pack, ensuring its safety as they embarked on the challenging ride back.

“Every kilometer felt like an eternity,” admitted Ladislau, his focus unwavering in his mission to save the dog.
Once home, the newfound friend was named Rotivi, though Ladislau fondly refers to him as Pelanka. The dog’s recovery from malnutrition and illness marked a fresh start, as he embraced a life brimming with love and companionship.
“He’s our companion, always by our side,” Rosilene expressed with pride. Rotivi’s presence became a source of joy and resilience, exemplifying the profound impact of kindness and compassion.

Through their courageous act, Ladislau and Rosilene became heroes not only for Rotivi but also for other animals in need. Their inspiring story encourages others to show compassion and dedication toward rescuing animals.
Nowadays, Rotivi enjoys his new life, joining the cyclists on their rides and reinforcing the bond created through adversity.
Together, they venture across endless trails, crafting memories enriched by their remarkable journey of rescue, hope, and unwavering friendship.
