For the initial months of her life, everything was uncertain for Jolie. Discovered as a stray in Florida, she moved from one rescue or foster home to another.

All she ever wanted was a place where she could feel safe and at ease. When Deanna McCallum heard about Jolie, she realized she could provide the stability the young cat was longing for.

“She had been at Cape Ann Animal Aid for quite some time before I got to meet her via Zoom,” McCallum shared with The Dodo. “I instantly knew she needed a loving home.”

After connecting through Zoom, McCallum didn’t hesitate to adopt Jolie, determined to give her the real home she yearned for.

Though they didn’t meet in person before the adoption, McCallum headed to pick Jolie up, finding her already comfortable inside her carrier.

Once they arrived home, Jolie shyly popped her head out of her carrier, taking in her new surroundings and owner for the very first time.

“She was extremely nervous when we got home! I opened her carrier and let her explore for a bit,” McCallum recounted.

While Jolie appeared a bit cautious initially, McCallum could see that the cat was also amazed to find such a welcoming space just for her. After a journey full of uncertainties, Jolie had finally found her home.

Though not being able to meet Jolie in person earlier had been challenging, witnessing Jolie’s awe at her new life made the wait worthwhile.

It took Jolie about a week to fully adapt to her new environment. Contrary to the rescue’s warnings that Jolie might struggle with the transition, McCallum found her incredibly gentle and sweet throughout.

After everything she’d faced, all Jolie wanted was affection.

“While it took a few weeks for her to warm up, Jolie is the sweetest cat I have ever met,” McCallum remarked. “She’s never hissed, scratched, or attempted to bite me. She’s never acted out at all.

She’s just a sweet soul who needed a loving home, and I’m so grateful to have her with me.”

From that moment when Jolie peeked out of her carrier, she seemed to realize she was finally where she belonged.
