A puppy found himself deserted on a remote hillside, abandoned and frightened. Left by an owner, he felt isolated and unsure of his next move.
When I first spotted him, his hopeful eyes stayed fixed on me, signaling a mix of anxiety and yearning. He was visibly malnourished, his skin flaking, facing dire consequences without imminent help.
Thankfully, a passing mountain biker noticed the puppy and contacted me. After three hours, we managed to transport the little one to a vet’s office, a place he was initially too intimidated to leave.
His health was in a precarious state. His skin was rough and inflamed, while his eyes were visibly sore, and his body was infested with ticks, a sign of prolonged neglect.
Once the veterinarian administered medicine for his skin, the puppy’s discomfort began to subside, offering him some relief. As we discovered, he was merely three months old, indicating he had suffered from neglect since birth.
This made us wonder about his mother, who usually stays close to her pups, suggesting he might not have wandered far on his own.
The road to recovery was likely to be long, yet within a few days, the puppy’s demeanor started shifting. He grew curious about his surroundings and his initial fear started to wane.
Nevertheless, he kept seeking my comfort. The breakthrough came when he confidently ventured closer, viewing me as a maternal figure. It was a pleasant day, and we shared moments of joy amid the sunshine.
Gradually, love and care—which were once foreign to him—began to anchor his healing process. We named him Amber, and his condition improved remarkably, with his skin regenerating and his nourishment levels increasing.
However, we faced a setback when Amber suddenly couldn’t walk and cried in pain. Vet exams and x-rays revealed he had gastritis. Fortunately, his condition stabilized, and relief soon followed.
Initially hesitant to eat while standing, Amber showed gradual signs of improvement. His skin nearly healed, sprouting new hair, signaling hope for his future.
We started preparing to find Amber a forever home, where he could finally experience the love and happiness he deserved.
