A two-year-old boxer mix named Freon faced a life-changing moment when he finally saw a friendly face after being alone for nearly two weeks.
The encounter took place when rescuer Donna Lochmann arrived at the top of a stairway where the young dog had been left alone.
It all began when Lochmann received a call from a landlord who discovered Freon abandoned in one of his properties.
The landlord explained that the dog’s previous owners had moved to a pet-free residence, leaving Freon confined without notifying anyone. Alarmed by this, Lochmann promptly made her way to the location.

Upon reaching the property, Lochmann found the foyer, where Freon had been residing. She described the moment to The Dodo, saying, “When I pried the door open, I noticed him huddling on one of the landings.”
Remarkably, Freon had survived the ordeal thanks to food and water bowls left behind, which kept him going during the hot summer days.
As Lochmann approached, Freon was initially shy but allowed her to gently place a leash on him without much fuss.
“He was hesitant to accompany me,” Lochmann recounted. “However, after a little persuasion with Vienna sausages, he went up the steps and out the front door.”

The real journey began once they got into the car. Freon, who was yet to receive his name, displayed a fondness for the air conditioning by pressing his face against the vents.
Inspired by this, Lochmann decided to call him Freon, a fitting name given his obvious enjoyment of the cool breeze.
Upon arriving at the shelter, Freon quickly endeared himself to the staff. According to a Facebook post, he was remarkably friendly even after receiving his vaccinations — a behavior that was unprecedented for the shelter.

After a brief stay at the shelter’s clinic to receive medical care, Freon was deemed fit for adoption. It didn’t take long for a family to recognize just how special he was.
“He now has his forever family,” Lochmann happily shared, adding that Freon even has a furry sibling to bond with.
The team at Stray Rescue of St. Louis expressed their joy over Freon’s happy ending and celebrated the new chapter in his life. “We adore you, buddy,” the shelter announced. “There is no turning back.”
