Marley’s life took a remarkable turn after spending over five years neglected in a backyard. During that time, his owners paid him little attention, often leaving him to eat Cheerios from a dirty dish, or sometimes giving him no food at all.
His water was usually tainted with algae and debris.

Whenever he got too excited, his owner would hit him on the head, and the only command he seemed to understand was “no.” The neglect was so severe that Marley forgot his own name.
However, everything changed when, after five years of effort by PETA fieldworkers, his owner finally agreed to relinquish Marley to the animal rights organization.
Marley was in poor health, suffering from parasites and desperately in need of nourishment and care.
Once at PETA’s shelter, Marley basked in the attention and care he received. Michael Moss, a PETA staff member, was drawn to Marley’s resilient spirit and lively nature. Before long, Marley found a new, permanent home.
Today, Marley enjoys the comfort of a cozy sofa, where he can play with another dog named Kyah, and he is showered with treats and affection.
“I was really captivated by his spunky personality and unbreakable spirit,” says Moss. “Now, he has toys, bones, treats, and a big backyard to explore with Kyah. All I want is for him to be happy.”
