Puppies, much like young children, find joy in playful moments as they explore the world around them. However, just as children need their parents, puppies need to stay with their mothers for essential care and development.
Unfortunately, this early bonding was missing in the case of a two-month-old Africanis mix puppy named Panda.
Panda was prematurely separated from her mother when a stranger handed her over to neighborhood children for playtime.
One observant mother, recognizing Panda’s vulnerability, contacted Sidewalk Specials, a local dog rescue and sterilization service. While trying her best to care for Panda, she understood that professional help was necessary.

The team at Sidewalk Specials stepped in promptly, providing Panda with a bottle of milk to curb her hunger, and immediately took her to a veterinarian for crucial medical attention.
The vet discovered that Panda was suffering from biliary, a disease caused by parasites, and was also undernourished.
Being with their mothers is crucial for puppies not only for the physical nourishment that comes from maternal milk, rich in necessary nutrients and antibodies but also for the emotional comfort that a mother provides.
This closeness helps them build strong social skills and develop proper behavioral norms. It also reinforces their immune system and nurtures a sense of security essential for a stable temperament.

Separation from the mother too early can result in emotional and behavioral challenges, such as aggression, anxiety, and difficulties in social interactions with both humans and other dogs.
Additionally, such premature separation can lead to long-term health issues affecting the puppy’s overall well-being.
Thankfully for Panda, swift actions by her rescuer and the intervention of Sidewalk Specials offered her hope for a healthier and happier future.
