When Petey, a neglected dog, finally found a loving home, his joyous smile captured the hearts of many. His journey started in a high-admission shelter in North Carolina, where he was often overlooked by potential adopters.
In early October, he was moved to the SPCA of Wake County in hopes of improving his chances of finding a forever family.
Despite being just a year old, Petey had spent a significant amount of time at the county shelter. To boost his adoption prospects, the SPCA shared a picture of him online, hoping that someone would fall for his charm.
It worked—shortly after the post, a family came across his photograph and felt an instant connection.
Once Petey was home, his new family shared heartwarming images of him playing and snuggling with them and their other dog. A favorite snapshot shows Petey curled up on a blanket with a broad smile, clearly feeling content and secure.
The SPCA captured the sentiment perfectly by commenting on Facebook, “That is the smile of a dog that knows he’s home.”
Petey’s new owners report that he is settling in well. He enjoys fetching, exploring the yard, and lounging on the bed. His playful nature shines through as he eagerly interacts with other dogs, especially his new canine sibling.
They express their happiness by saying, “Petey is the perfect addition because he is appreciated and showing off his endearing side. We’re thrilled to have him in our lives.”
And without a doubt, Petey feels the same gratitude and joy to be part of their family.
