In late May, a distressing situation unfolded in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, when the local Humane Society (HSLC) was alerted by police and fire rescue teams. They had discovered a dog trapped in a storm drain.
Initial fears were high as the animal appeared to be lifeless. However, hope sparked when, upon removing the grate, the dog weakly lifted his head, indicating he still had a fighting chance.
A devoted volunteer and shelter staff member quickly arrived at the site, bracing for a tragic scene. They were met with the heartbreaking sight of a vulnerable animal abandoned in terrible conditions, his pain and fear visible.

The dog, named Buddy, was found curled into a small ball, fragile and nearing death. He was gently extracted from the drain and urgently taken to an emergency vet for necessary medical attention.
Buddy, a 15-year-old senior dog who had gone missing three weeks prior, was soon identified. Contact was made with his family, but it became apparent that prioritizing his well-being was crucial at this point.
Buddy spent three days receiving intensive care, gradually regaining his strength. Although his condition showed signs of improvement, his age and existing health issues meant he still had hurdles to overcome.
Further medical attention is vital for Buddy, including ultrasounds, x-rays, and an appointment with an eye specialist. Due to his age, sedation carries risks, highlighting the need for a tranquil, nurturing foster home to aid his recovery.
The shelter has pledged to cover all of Buddy’s medical expenses, food, and supplements. Now, Buddy needs a patient foster environment where he can rest and recuperate.
Buddy is a gentle soul who gets along well with cats and maintains a calm approach around them. He is also friendly with other dogs, especially those that share his laid-back demeanor.
