Providing a neglected dog with hope can change their world completely. A little bit of love and care can turn even the saddest dog into a wonderful companion. This heartwarming transformation was witnessed firsthand with Oakley, a ten-month-old puppy.

Oakley’s journey began when she was discovered in a Missouri yard, hiding quietly in some bushes. Having suffered neglect, the young pup was in a bad state, enduring a severe injury and an open wound that wasn’t healing.

Silent and in pain, Oakley struggled in harsh conditions until a change finally came her way. Her rescuer was Donna Lochmann from Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Missouri, who happened to pass by at just the right moment.

While out on her rounds, Donna noticed some unusual movement in the bushes. Closer inspection revealed Oakley’s tiny, injured head peeking through the foliage, struggling with a severe neck wound. According to a post by Stray Rescue of St. Louis, “This adorable 10-month-old female puppy was all by herself hiding in some bush. Upon closer inspection, we saw she suffered from a gaping neck wound.”

The wound was caused by a collar that was too tight, restricting Oakley and creating open, painful sores. Despite the pain, Oakley greeted Donna with a wagging tail and eyes filled with hope.

Once they reached Stray Rescue headquarters, Oakley received the care she needed. After a few stitches, her wound healed quickly, leaving only a small scar as a reminder of her past struggles. As Stray Rescue shared in an update, “She was rescued, stayed in our clinic where we healed her gaping neck wound. Now she’s in foster, her stitches are out, she’s fully healed, and ready for her forever home.”
