At the Furgiven Animal Sanctuary in West Memphis, Arkansas, staff members were met with an unexpected and alarming scene one morning. Arriving at their facility at 8 a.m., they discovered an empty crate by the roadside, sparking immediate concern for the wellbeing of any animals that might have been left inside.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, they were horrified to learn that two puppies had been abandoned in the crate at around 2:30 a.m. With the potential dangers the busy road posed, the staff were anxious to locate the lost puppies but found no trace of them nearby.

Lee Ridings, the sanctuary’s Director and Co-founder, speculated that the puppies were deserted late at night due to overcrowding in local shelters. “I’m sure they were left in the middle of the night because most shelters in the area are full,” Ridings explained to Newsweek. Ridings suggested that the puppies might have come from an unplanned litter.
The discovery that the crate was perilously close to the road was particularly distressing, especially given the warm overnight conditions. The crate itself was poorly constructed, with a makeshift lining of roofing shingles.
Thankfully, later that same morning, the puppies returned to the site where they had been left. Initially uneasy and afraid, they barked at the sanctuary staff, who patiently attempted to win their trust with gentle words and treats.

Through persistent effort, the team succeeded in coaxing one of the puppies, now named Dell, to approach a staff member and accept a leash. However, her sister, later named Brynn, remained wary and refused to come forward.
Understanding Brynn needed extra reassurance, the rescuers cleverly placed food inside the crate to encourage her to enter. After some time, Brynn cautiously approached and was finally secured, much to the relief of everyone involved.
Once safely taken into the sanctuary, Dell and Brynn were promptly examined by a veterinarian. Apart from being undernourished, the puppies were found to be in good condition. The sanctuary team showered them with care and attention, helping them adapt and become comfortable in their new environment.

Gradually, the puppies began to trust their human caregivers, eagerly greeting them with wagging tails and puppy kisses. The transformation in their demeanor was evident, as their eyes shone with newfound hope and happiness.
Now known for their affectionate nature, Dell and Brynn are thriving and ready to find their permanent home, where they can continue to spread their love. The sanctuary hopes these endearing pups will soon join a forever family that can provide them with the love and security they deserve.
