When Wally first arrived at the Town of Islip Animal Shelter, life hadn’t been kind to him. At around ten years old, he appeared weathered from spending most of his life outdoors as a stray.

Despite his rough start, all Wally craved was love, and luckily, his new shelter companions were eager to shower him with the affection he’d been missing.

Beset by a severe skin condition and blindness in one eye, Wally certainly had a unique appearance. His caregivers worried that his unconventional looks might deter potential adopters, but they saw past his exterior to the beautiful dog he was becoming.

According to Danielle Gorle, a veterinary technician at the shelter, Wally’s endearing traits shone through. “He loves to slobber on you and will do anything for some food,” she shared. “He also likes just to hang out and not do anything.”

Despite his loving nature, Wally had been residing at the shelter for nearly a year. As a senior dog, he only desired a peaceful home to spend his golden years.

However, shelter life was taking its toll on him, and his caretakers were determined to find him a forever family soon.

Gorle noticed a change in Wally’s demeanor over time. “He seems to be declining,” she observed. “When he initially arrived, he was cheerful. He adores getting out, yet he appears miserable in his kennel.”

Wally’s ideal home would be one with a serene environment, free from stairs, and no children under 15 or other pets.

While he does have specific medical needs, all Wally truly longs for is love, which he promises to give unconditionally.
