Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s son, Maddox, has given his first interview since starting college in South Korea, where he skillfully avoided questions about his strained relationship with his father.
The young biochemistry student, who began attending Yonsei University in Incheon this fall, sidestepped inquiries about his estrangement from his father, Brad Pitt.
In a video obtained by In Touch Weekly, Maddox was asked if his father would visit him at his new school, to which he responded, “I don’t know about that [or] what’s happening.”
When further pressed about whether his relationship with Brad Pitt was “over,” he replied, “Well, whatever happens, happens.”
Maddox’s estrangement from Brad Pitt dates back to 2016, following an alleged incident on a private plane between the two. Shortly after the altercation, Brad and Angelina filed for divorce, ending their two-year marriage.
The Hollywood couple, together for 12 years before getting married, share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne.
Maddox began his studies at Yonsei University in late August, with his mother, Angelina Jolie, accompanying him to the campus to help him settle in.
The actress and humanitarian told a group of students that she was “trying not to cry” as she escorted her son to his dormitory.
In their joint statement after filing for divorce, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie indicated they would handle the separation privately.
Brad, who had been married to actress Jennifer Aniston before Angelina, later admitted to spending 18 months in Alcoholics Anonymous, explaining in a New York Times interview that he had taken his drinking “as far as I could take it” and that the support group offered him a space with “little judgment.”
Despite the media attention surrounding his parents’ high-profile divorce, Maddox appears focused on his studies and navigating life at university.
