Adorable footage from a wildlife center in Kenya shows a rescued elephant named Lemeki drinking water directly from a hosepipe.

This charming five-month-old orphaned calf is growing up at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Neonate Nursery in the Tsavo Conservation Area near Nairobi.

Lemeki was rescued in May as a newborn after being swept away by a flood in the Mara River. Fortunately, her early brush with danger hasn’t deterred her love for water; she enjoys splashing around and often drinks from the hose that staff use to create mudbaths for the animals.

In the footage, Lemeki playfully holds the hose with her trunk, using it like a straw as she gulps down water.

Her enthusiasm for the hose has led to playful tug-of-war battles with her fellow orphans, all vying for their turn.

Her keepers describe her as “boisterous, noisy, and a complete clown,” adding that she thrives on attention and her vibrant personality captures the hearts of everyone around her. She relies heavily on her caregivers for milk, security, and nurturing.

As she grows, Lemeki is set to be returned to the wild in a protected area. The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, one of East Africa’s oldest conservation organizations, has successfully rescued over 260 orphaned elephants, showcasing their commitment to wildlife conservation.
