Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost have reunited onscreen, this time for a comedic Super Bowl commercial showcasing a fictional, mind-reading Alexa device.
The real-life married couple who once collaborated on Saturday Night Live explore what it might be like if their smart assistant could read their thoughts.
In the ad, Johansson and Jost go about their typical game-day routine at home, interacting with Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant known for playing music, reporting the weather, and delivering news.
Initially impressed by Alexa’s capabilities, they quickly envision a world where Alexa could read their minds — and the humorous mishaps that would follow.
Set to premiere on Monday and air during Super Bowl 56 on February 13; the 60-second ad humorously captures the couple’s imaginary reactions to a mind-reading Alexa.
Jost believes many couples will find the ad relatable, noting, “They exaggerated scenarios that I think reflect the dynamics of most couples.”
In a recent interview, Johansson admitted that if Alexa could truly read thoughts, it would be “absolutely terrifying” and might prompt them to “live off the grid.”
On the other hand, Jost joked about trying to confuse Alexa with his “many thoughts at once,” to which Johansson quipped that he already has plenty on his mind.
The Black Widow actress and Saturday Night Live writer, who married in 2020, enjoyed working together again after years since their last shared sketch on the late-night show. Jost recalled writing a sketch for Johansson over a decade ago when she was a guest host.
Johansson described the ad shoot as fun and hopes it resonates with Super Bowl audiences. “Of course, you want to make sure it lands,” she shared, adding, “It’s a little nerve-racking, but it’s exciting to reach such a large audience.”
