One day, while completing her delivery route, she spotted a small, unkempt dog running across the road. Her heart still tender from Lela’s passing, she couldn’t bear the thought of another dog being in danger, so she stopped her car to check on the little animal.

“He was so small, and after just losing my own dog, I couldn’t risk him getting hurt,” she shared with The Dodo. The scruffy dog seemed to have been waiting for her, as he eagerly jumped into her arms.

Finding no collar or microchip on the dog, she decided to take him to the vet for a health check. The vet declared the three-year-old dog, whom she named Stitch, to be healthy despite his tangled fur.

Hoping to find Stitch’s owner, she waited a week for any word. When none came, she set about grooming him herself. As she carefully trimmed his fur, she was struck by his resemblance to Lela, which brought tears to her eyes.

Although Stitch reminded her of Lela, he had his own unique character. Initially shy, Stitch gradually began to feel at home with his new owner. Her patience and affection helped him transform into a cheerful and lively companion.

Though she continues to miss Lela deeply, she is grateful for Stitch’s presence in her life. “I sometimes feel like it was Lela who guided our paths to cross at the perfect moment,” she mused.
