In the world of dog rescue, where emotional highs and lows are part of the daily routine, one thing always shines through: the immense compassion of those involved.
Suzette Hall, a dedicated rescuer from California, embodies this spirit as she tackles heart-wrenching situations in her mission to save vulnerable animals. While some days are filled with hope, others bring deep sorrow and leave lasting marks.
On one such challenging day, Suzette, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 based in Irvine, California, received an urgent call. A small dog named Nesquik had been in an accident, struck by a car that did not stop.

Without wasting a moment, she rushed to help.
The sight that met her was heart-rending.
“After the car hit him, the driver continued on. Nesquik tumbled seven times. As I cradled him on the way to the vet, he cried the entire time,” Hall shared in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Time was of the essence. With tears held back, Hall sped to the veterinary hospital, hoping for a miracle.

The outlook from the vets was grim: Nesquik had a shattered pelvis and was in significant pain. Prompt action was taken to stabilize him, administering IV fluids and pain relief. The only real chance of recovery was through surgery.
For the next few days, Hall and her team remained close, watching over Nesquik and hoping for signs of recovery. Then, optimism flickered back into focus.
Nesquik managed to sit up on his own. He showed a healthy appetite, and crucially, he responded when his legs were tested for reflexes, indicating he was not paralyzed.
“His swelling has decreased. He’s been receiving fluids and anti-inflammatories, and now can sit up. This sweet pup is set for surgery on Friday morning. We believe in miracles,” Hall updated everyone.

Unexpected heartbreak was yet to come.
The surgery to repair Nesquik’s pelvis proceeded carefully, with every effort made to help him heal. Despite these efforts, his condition took a tragic turn.
An aggressive infection spread, compromising his internal organs. After enduring so much, his small body reached its limit.
“We managed to fix the damage from the accident, but the infection was beyond what medicine could cure,” Hall explained sorrowfully.

Though they poured their hearts into his recovery, Nesquik did not survive. His rescuers were left heartbroken.
Nesquik’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers many dogs face and the love they have to give, often met by life’s cruel challenges. His brief life touched many, leaving an indelible mark of love and care.
“We love you dearly. We yearned for a better life for you. We gave all we could, but your body said, ‘Enough is enough.’ Thank you for your fight. We will never forget you,” Hall concluded in her farewell.
Rest in peace, dear Nesquik. Your courage and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who tried to save you.
