Urgent action was necessary to alleviate the elephant’s suffering. Restraint was achieved by remotely administering 8 milligrams of Etorphine Hydrochloride via a 1.5 ml dan-inject dart.

Due to the challenging terrain, this darting was done on foot. It took only seven minutes for the drugs to take full effect, causing the elephant to lie on her left side.

Upon examination, a distressing sight met the rescuers. Multiple arrows, each barbed and menacing, had penetrated her body, including her head and trunk.

The transformation of this young elephant from a symbol of suffering to one of resilience and hope is a testament to the dedication and unwavering commitment of those who worked tirelessly to save her.
