Last week, Meagan, the president of PuppyKittyNYCity, an animal rescue organization, was on her way to work when she received an urgent call about a cat found in a subway station.
The cat, huddled on the station stairs, appeared terrified but was surprisingly gentle, allowing people to pet him.
Despite her full rescue, Meagan knew she couldn’t leave the frightened feline behind. “In some situations, you can’t say no. We couldn’t let this baby stay in the subway station all day,” she shared.
With no one claiming the cat, it seemed likely he had been abandoned and ended up in the subway, overwhelmed by the noise and chaos around him.
Meagan immediately rerouted to the subway station, where a volunteer kept the cat safe. When she arrived, the cat was curled up on the volunteer’s lap, snuggled in her arms, and seeking comfort from the human touch.
With no rescue equipment, Meagan quickly improvised—emptied her purse and placed the cat inside. The cat settled in calmly, leaning into her as she carried him through the streets.
“I got him safely to my car, and of course, we named him Subway,” Meagan said. Though a bit shaken, Subway began to relax once inside the car.
That morning, Meagan took a detour from her regular routine, but it was worth it—Subway was now safe, and his days of struggling outdoors were behind him.
Subway visited the vet in the following days and received the needed care. Estimated to be about a year old, Subway is still kitten-like, playful, yet incredibly affectionate. “He’s perfect and so friendly. He’d make a great first cat or an amazing addition to any home,” Meagan noted.
Subway has regained his confidence and now actively seeks out human affection. He no longer cowers but approaches people for pets and attention, his purrs echoing his contentment. He’s gentle and sweet and even gets along well with other cats, showing his kind nature.
Subway eagerly climbs into their lap whenever someone sits down, purring and kneading to find the perfect spot.
He’s happiest when snuggled up, enjoying cheek scratches and warm company. With every loving stroke, Subway’s transformation from a scared subway cat to a cherished lap cat is a testament to the power of kindness.
Thanks to his rescuers, Subway is thriving in his new life, filled with warm laps, delicious meals, and the comforts of a loving indoor home.
