Angelina Jolie’s 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, made a special appearance in the audience of the Today show as her Oscar-winning mother discussed their joint project, a musical adaptation of “The Outsiders.”
The new stage production is based on the 1980s film featuring Tom Cruise and Patrick Swayze, adapted from S.E. Hinton’s 1967 novel.
Vivienne beamed with pride as her mother shared details about their work on the musical, emphasizing that the project is deeply rooted in family values. Jolie explained that Vivienne, who strongly connects to “The Outsiders,” suggested they create their stage version.
During the interview, Today’s show host Hoda Kotb asked about Vivienne’s involvement. Jolie responded, “She did. But I think that’s to say for anybody watching and anybody who is going to see this and what they brought forward…this is about family.
And the same reason it responded to her, she wanted me next to her watching it, and we all hugged when I came out here because this is about family.”
Jolie shares six children with her ex-husband Brad Pitt: twins Knox and Vivienne, 15, daughters Shiloh, 17, and Zahara, 18, and sons Pax, 20, and Maddox, 22. Vivienne has taken on a significant role in the production, with Jolie referring to her as a “tough assistant.”
At the Broadway premiere of the musical, Jolie praised Vivienne as the “biggest theatre head” in the family, with Justin Levine, the book and score writer for “The Outsiders,” agreeing wholeheartedly.
Jolie joked about Vivienne’s serious approach to her assistant role, recalling how her daughter would remind her of tasks and schedules with determination.
Vivienne’s enthusiasm for “The Outsiders” grew after seeing a production in San Diego. Jolie admired her daughter’s dedication, noting that Vivienne reminds her of her mother with her supportive nature and focus on helping other creatives.
The family’s appearance at the premiere saw Jolie in a dazzling metallic gold gown and rust-hued cape, while Pax sported a relaxed look with a white T-shirt and black tuxedo jacket. Vivienne wore a stylish blue boiler suit, completing the look with a side-part hairstyle.
Following the show, Jolie, Vivienne, and Pax enjoyed dinner at the upscale Cipriani restaurant, highlighting their close-knit family bond.
Jolie’s excitement for the Broadway debut of “The Outsiders” underscores her and Vivienne’s commitment to bringing this cherished story to a new audience.
