Angelina Jolie proudly shares insights into her children’s growth and how they inspire each other in the latest issue of PEOPLE.
In an exclusive interview for PEOPLE’s 2021 Kindness Issue, Angelina Jolie reflects on her six children’s unique journeys and how they are becoming remarkable individuals.

The Oscar-winning actress is the mother of Maddox (20), Pax (17), Zahara (16), Shiloh (15), and 13-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
“They’re pretty great people,” Jolie, 46, tells PEOPLE. “Because there’s so many of them, I think they’ve significantly affected each other. It’s not like I’m the head of anything. I’m very honest with my kids. And I’m very human with my kids.”

She emphasizes her approach to parenting as one of honesty and support, focusing on understanding and nurturing each child’s unique personality and interests.
“I have six very individual human beings in my home. I am so excited about the different stages, feelings, and curiosities they go through. Why wouldn’t you be?” Jolie explains.
“We’re supposed to help them figure out who they are. And you can’t figure out who they are if you don’t enthusiastically develop with them.”

Despite her advocacy work for refugees through the U.N., Jolie admits that she is often hard on herself regarding parenting. “I’m not a perfect parent by any means,” she says.
“Every day, I feel more aware of everything I don’t do right. And I’m pretty tough on myself because I often feel, ‘Am I doing the right thing? Did I say the right thing?’”
Jolie concludes by expressing how her children’s kindness has been a source of healing for her. “My children have done many, many loving things. My children’s kindness has been very healing to me.”
