In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Angelina Jolie opens up about facing a “difficult” year while prioritizing her children amidst personal challenges.
Following her divorce from Brad Pitt in 2016, Jolie has focused on her family’s healing journey away from the public eye. She emphasizes her role as a mother, stating, “We all have our difficult times, but as a mother, you also have a responsibility first and foremost towards the kids.”

Despite the ups and downs, Jolie and her six children remain resilient. She returns to work with the release of “First They Killed My Father,” a film she directed for Netflix, based on a memoir about surviving the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia.
While planning future acting roles, including reprising her role in “Maleficent 2,” Jolie prioritizes her children’s needs. She acknowledges the impact of her career on their lives, stating, “Everything will be around the children.”

Jolie reflects on her late mother’s influence, expressing pride in her children’s involvement in her latest project. The movie holds personal significance, rooted in Jolie’s deep connection to Cambodia, where she adopted her eldest son, Maddox, and has been involved in humanitarian work for over a decade.
Despite challenges, Jolie’s family is transitioning out of a period of “lockdown” and looking forward to new adventures. She remarks, “I think they’re itching to get out in the world again. We’ve all been in lockdown and going through some things.”
Amid personal struggles, Angelina Jolie’s strength and dedication to her family shines through, reflecting a journey of resilience and growth.
