Angelina Jolie, 49, displayed her elegant fashion sense upon arriving at JFK airport in New York on Friday with her 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne, ahead of the Tony Awards.
The Hollywood star, currently in a legal battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt, 60, over their Chateau Miraval winery, wore a chic black jacket over a white blouse paired with a long black skirt.
She completed her look with black boots, dark sunglasses, a thin belt, and small gold earrings. Her long, dark hair was styled straight, and she opted for natural makeup with a soft peach lip.
Vivienne, one of Angelina’s six children with Brad Pitt, mirrored her mother’s understated style. She donned a beige T-shirt, high-waisted white jeans, and sneakers as they moved from the airport to their hotel.
The weekend ahead is significant for the mother-daughter duo, as “The Outsiders,” the musical they produced, is nominated for several awards at Sunday’s Tony Awards.
Based on SE Hinton’s famous novel, the musical revolves around a group of 1960s teens in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who struggle for survival and purpose. It has earned 12 Tony nominations, including Best New Musical.
Vivienne initially joined the production as a volunteer assistant, and Angelina later became a producer. Praising her daughter, Angelina told the Associated Press, “There are those artists that think about themselves, and those who are just rooting for everybody else.
[Vivienne’s] that one. She’s the one that just roots for everybody and so it’s nice.” In a conversation with Deadline earlier this month, Angelina reflected on their journey into the Broadway production. “My daughter Viv loves theater.
She appreciates all theater, but she certainly knows what she feels close to and how she responds to it. She went to see ‘The Outsiders’ at La Jolla about five times and was telling me about it. I had read the book and seen the film years ago.”
Angelina recounted how witnessing the production impacted Vivienne, saying, “I was learning what about it was important to her and why it connected so deeply to her.”
Producers soon approached them for feedback, leading to a collaborative process. “Viv and I sat together, and we wrote down what we liked and what we were curious about,” Angelina explained.
Her involvement as a producer evolved naturally. “It was a moment to learn more about Viv, not me thinking of becoming a producer.
At some point, it just felt the team seemed to feel that we were adding to it, so I wanted just to be a support and listen and share my thoughts where applicable,” she said.
Angelina admired the musical’s director, Danya Taymor, stating, “I have so much respect for Danya and her work.
As a director, I learned so much watching her, how she makes sure the artists doing such special work were heard and supported.”
Jolie mentioned that Vivienne was involved throughout the process, with Taymor praising the teen for “giving me the most amazing notes.”
Angelina will present at Sunday’s Tony Awards alongside Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo and The Who’s Pete Townshend. The Tonys will air live on CBS and Paramount+ at 8 PM Eastern Time on Sunday.
