When Krista first encountered Ayla, she was only eleven weeks old and in desperate need of help. Ayla’s condition was heart-wrenching; she was underweight, suffering from mange, and shivering while struggling to crawl on the ground.
Krista took Ayla to a veterinarian, who discovered the extent of her health issues during an examination. Ayla was severely malnourished, and it appeared she had swallowed a stone. Furthermore, crawling had caused notable abrasions and chronic harm to her body, highlighting a calcium deficiency that led to deformities in her front legs.
Currently, Ayla is receiving care at a veterinary hospital, where every effort is being made to aid her recovery. Though she is now in the safe hands of Little Steps, her journey to health may take up to three months of dedicated care.
Encouragingly, X-ray results indicated that Ayla has no broken bones, which increases her chances of regaining her ability to walk normally. Aside from proper nutrition, Ayla is now enjoying brief outings for sunbathing. Despite still feeling the itch from mange, her spirits have lifted. She’s been a remarkable patient.
The morning after, Ayla underwent blood tests, which confirmed mange and nutrient deficiencies as her primary challenges. Fortunately, these are treatable. Ayla received a calcium supplement and was fitted with a bandage designed to support her limb abnormalities.
In Krista’s words, “It fills my heart with joy to see our little treasure, Ayla, as happy as can be. Watching her play like a puppy again is incredibly heartwarming.”
One of Ayla’s greatest joys is playing with her small ball, and she is getting more toys to help her practice walking. She will need to wear her bandage for almost a week.
