Last November, an animal welfare organization called Bark Nation carried out a rescue mission to save 108 dogs from what is believed to be Michigan’s largest dogfighting operation.
Among those rescued was a blind dog named Turkey Jerky Snack, fondly referred to as the KING, who had been cruelly left chained outside with just a dilapidated doghouse for cover.

Based in Detroit, Bark Nation aims to end dogfighting and save lives, working alongside federal and state law enforcement in this case.
Jessica Brown, the Director of Operations at Bark Nation, expressed, “We can’t fathom the trauma he must have endured living blind and exposed to the elements.”
Since his rescue, Turkey has captured the hearts of the staff and volunteers. “He loves nothing more than to enjoy a Disney movie marathon, munch on cheese pizza, and cuddle on the couch,” shared the shelter.

While awaiting his forever home, Turkey is being well-cared for at the shelter. Recently, he even received the Best Actor award at the shelter’s own “Bark-ademy Awards.”
The shelter remarked, “Our Best Actor award winner brings warmth and joy to everyone he meets. His charismatic nature keeps us all entertained.”
The staff hopes his newfound fame will speed up his adoption process. Turkey enjoys interacting with other dogs and would love a canine companion.

To thrive in a new home, Turkey will need a fenced yard and a family willing to patiently help him adjust. He may get along with another dog, and the shelter team is ready to assist with introductions to ensure a smooth transition.
Those interested in either adopting or fostering Turkey can visit Bark Nation’s website for more information. Many dogs from the “Great 108” rescue have found loving homes, but others, like Turkey, are still eagerly waiting for their chance at happiness.
A list of all adoption-ready dogs is available online.

Bark Nation continues its fight against dogfighting and abuse, tirelessly caring for numerous rescued dogs.
Since 2018, without government support and relying solely on donations from their supporters, they have successfully found homes for over 450 survivors of dogfighting.
