A Rescue Tale: Wally the Kitten’s Journey to Happiness
In a remarkable turn of events, a tiny blind kitten found perched on a tree in a Walmart parking lot has become a living testament to the power of a second chance. Meet Wally, the resilient feline who now showers his rescuers with gratitude daily.
Nikki, an animal rescuer affiliated with @myfosterkittens, recounted to Love Meow how she first learned of Wally’s plight. “A friend called to say there was a very sick kitten stuck in a tree,” she explained.
Despite being at work, she guided her friend through the steps to safely retrieve the grimy and infected little stray, whose eyes were so inflamed they were sealed shut.
Later that day, Nikki went to meet the kitten in person. From the very start, Wally displayed a sweet nature, gently meowing as if to express his thanks to his saviors.
Once settled into his new temporary home, he responded with contented purring while Nikki looked after him.
The next day, Wally was taken to the vet who promptly performed a necessary surgery. As he recuperated, Wally showcased his affectionate personality, curling up on Nikki’s lap and kneading with his paws.
Wally was born with a condition known as microphthalmia, which left him blind. His eyes were severely infected and required surgery to clean and close the sockets, preventing future complications.
Unfortunately, the severity of his infection meant he needed two more surgeries, but the ordeal was almost over, with his stitches scheduled for removal soon.
Interestingly, Wally was named after the very place he was found—the “Wally World” Walmart parking lot. Nikki shared with Love Meow how aware Wally seems of the help he receives, showing his gratitude in his own special ways.
Joyful and playful, Wally is a reminder that disabilities need not be limitations. “He inspires me and others,” Nikki noted.
In a few weeks, Wally will begin a new chapter, traveling from Las Vegas to a permanent home in Charlotte, NC. Despite his blindness, Wally thrives, using his other senses to guide him through life with infectious happiness.
“He wags his tail like a puppy,” Nikki remarked, highlighting his cheerfulness.
