A scraggly cat stumbled into a family’s backyard one weekend, looking for food and help. Weak and starving, she used the last of her energy to meow when someone approached her.
“The finder said the cat was not only incredibly sweet but also nothing more than skin and bones, desperate for assistance,” said Sarah Kelly, founder of Murphy’s Law Animal Rescue.
As soon as Sarah and her team received the call, they acted. The cat, now named Bagel, was in urgent need of care. A rescue volunteer named Jennifer welcomed Bagel into her home to foster her.
Despite her frail state, Bagel, a senior tabby, never stopped purring, seemingly expressing gratitude for her new haven.
“After being seen by the vet on Monday, it became clear that at less than four pounds, it was a miracle she had survived,” Sarah added.
Bagel spent a night at the animal hospital, receiving fluids and around-the-clock care. “She has a long road ahead of her to recover from what looks like severe malnutrition.”
The finder kindly covered Bagel’s initial vet costs and was relieved she was finally in good hands.
After settling in with Jennifer, Bagel found comfort in treats. “She loves her treats and is adjusting well to her new pampered life,” Jennifer shared.
A few weeks later, Bagel reached an important milestone, hitting the five-pound mark. As she grew stronger, she began exploring more, brushing against Jennifer in appreciation and enjoying her new life of care and treats.
“She’s thriving with her foster mom, soaking up all the attention and love she’s missed out on for so long. We’re thrilled to see her steadily gaining weight,” Sarah said.
One day, Bagel was given a small teddy bear, and she immediately took to it, carrying it everywhere.
Now, she enjoys her cozy bed, abundant food, and the warmth of her snuggle toys. She sleeps peacefully each night, knowing she’s safe and cared for.
Bagel and her trusty teddy are inseparable, with the stuffed companion always by her side as she dreams of endless treats, warm laps, and playful moments with feathered toys. Her coat has become soft and shiny, and her steps have strengthened.
“She’s spending her days cuddling, resting, and enjoying the treats that have become her favorite way to be spoiled.”
“Bagel has been a bright light in an otherwise tough year, and we’re so grateful to have given her this time and care after everything she’s been through,” Sarah said.
Nearly three months after wandering into that backyard, Bagel has made an incredible recovery and is living the life she deserves, always with her teddy bear.
