Cheetahs Spotted in Rare Mating Behavior as Two Males Mate with One Female Simultaneously

In an extraordinary and rare sight, two male cheetahs were seen mating with the same female simultaneously in South Africa’s Kalahari Desert. A group of tourists visiting the Tswalu Reserve captured this unusual event on video.

The footage shows both male cheetahs pinning the female to the ground while she struggles to break free. One of the males clamps his teeth onto the back of her neck to keep her still.

As they competed for dominance, both males attempted to get on top of her, but she eventually managed to push them away.

Juan Venter, a 26-year-old who filmed the encounter, explained that this behavior is rarely seen because cheetahs are typically quite private during mating.

Venter remarked, “At first, we thought the cheetahs were fighting due to all the noise. Then we realized both males from the same coalition were trying to mate with the female simultaneously. It was a moment I’ll never forget.”

Venter encouraged the tourists with him to keep recording, knowing they were witnessing something exceptional.

“Cheetahs are extremely shy when mating, so we made sure to give them space and respect the situation,” he added.

He noted the rare moment: “Some guides with over 15 years of experience have never seen anything like this in the wild. Usually, this kind of behavior only occurs in captivity. I feel incredibly lucky to have witnessed it. This is without a doubt, the highlight of my career.”

The Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, where the sighting occurred, is South Africa’s largest private game reserve, spanning over 114,000 hectares in the Northern Cape.
