Collared Inca: A Vibrant Hummingbird of the Andes

Published on

The Collared Inca (Coeligena torquata) is a breathtaking hummingbird native to the high-altitude regions of the Andes in South America. Known for its striking appearance, the bird features an iridescent green body, black collar, and, in males, a shimmering green throat and crown, making it a standout in the world of birds.

This medium-sized species thrives in mountain and cloud forests, typically found at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 meters (4,900 to 13,100 feet). The Collared Inca feeds mainly on flower nectar but supplements its diet with insects and spiders to meet its protein needs.
