Daring Escape: Horse’s Trailer Upside-Down Drama Spurs Safety Alert

Published on

In a heart-pounding incident, Grace, a seasoned show jumping horse, was in a difficult position inside her trailer.

Known for her graceful leaps, Grace attempted to jump the trailer’s breast bar, leading to a shocking outcome – she ended up upside down, her head supporting her weight and her hind feet dangling on the opposite side of the bar.

Thankfully, Grace emerged from this ordeal unharmed, narrowly avoiding a potential catastrophe. Her owner, Lorna Madden, is now advocating for a vital safety feature that was crucial in saving Grace’s life.

Madden embarked on a journey with Grace, her well-traveled broodmare, on August 4th in Britain. The aim was to introduce Grace to a new field, but the trip took an alarming turn.

Initially, Grace’s whinnies and movements were typical, as she had shared the trailer with another horse.

However, the situation turned dire as Grace fell silent. In moments, Grace’s calm demeanor changed, and Madden was met with a shocking sight through the window – Grace was suspended upside down, supported only by a quick-release bungee.

Grace’s considerable frame was in an inverted state, hanging from her neck and the side of her head.

This happened as she attempted to jump over the breast bar while still attached to the bungee, causing her to topple over it. Madden’s quick actions freed Grace from the bungee, allowing her to step out of the trailer.

Madden stresses the importance of correctly attaching the L-shaped hook with the pin to the trailer’s outer wall.

She took to Facebook to spread her message, emphasizing that this inconspicuous safety feature becomes crucial during emergencies.

Madden’s post serves as a reminder for trailer owners to double-check their breast bars’ correct installation.

Following this incident, Madden urges others to inspect their trailer’s bolts to ensure quick release in emergencies.
