Dying Dog Shares a Heartwarming Walk Down the Aisle on Mom’s Wedding Day

Last Update:

Charlie, a beloved black Labrador, shared a poignant moment with his human on her wedding day, despite battling a brain tumor at 15 years old.

Kelly O’Connell, a veterinarian from Denver, Colorado, tied the knot with James Garvin, her long-time partner.

Despite his declining health, Kelly had Charlie by her side on this particular day, and this was non-negotiable.

Struggling with the effects of his illness, Charlie attempted to walk down the aisle with Kelly’s sister, the maid of honor. However, the distance proved too much for him.

Showing remarkable love and dedication, Kelly’s sister, Katie, picked up the 80-pound pup and carried him to the altar, placing him next to Kelly.

The emotional moment he left both Kelly and her sister in tears. Kelly said, “To see him be carried a few feet kind of solidified that it’s not the Charlie he liked to be. He was aging, and it hit me knowing he lost a lot.”

Charlie, an adorable and loving dog, shared a special bond with Kelly. Sadly, this tender moment would likely be their last, as Charlie lost his battle with his illness a few days later.

Jen Dziuvenis, a friend and photographer at the wedding, captured the heartfelt scene and shared it on Facebook.

She commented, “When your beloved dog at the end of his life can’t make it back up the aisle, and your sister scoops him up and carries him… THAT is love. There isn’t enough mascara in the world for these moments. Dog people are the best people.”
