POWHATAN, La. — Louisiana authorities responding to a stranded tractor-trailer on a muddy highway shoulder encountered an unexpected sight: elephants helping to stabilize the vehicle.
According to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, the truck, en route from New Orleans to Dallas, was transporting three elephants when it became stuck on Interstate 49 near Powhatan on Tuesday.
The driver, noticing the truck leaning dangerously toward a ditch, guided two of the elephants onto the slope to brace the vehicle and keep it upright.
Authorities did not disclose the owner of the truck or the elephants. A tow truck eventually freed the rig, and no citations were issued to the driver.
This unusual teamwork midway through the journey highlighted the resourcefulness of the driver and the cooperative nature of the elephants.
