A cheeky elephant was caught stealing a welcome mat from outside the front door and shoving it in its mouth.
Filmed outside the South Luangwa Wildlife Camp reception in Zambia on November 20, the naughty baby boy picked up the straw mat.
The manager at the safari camp, Dawie Maree, who shot the video, says that life never gets boring as encounters with these gentle giants happen daily.
He said the elephants come close to houses to forage for food and bathe in the waterholes, but this time the curious elephant mistook the doormat for the exotic human cuisine.
“The elephants in the area are usually very relaxed. The only annoyance is that you have to wait until they pass, which can sometimes take a while,” said Dawie.
“First of all, when living in a wildlife area you have to respect your surroundings and the animals that calls it home, do that and all will be fine.
“When elephants are around buildings, it is best to stay under one roof and relax.
“Don’t make any quick movements that might scare the elephants; never walk between mother and baby.”
