Orphaned baby elephant tries to master holding his own milk bottle

This is the adorable moment when an orphaned baby elephant attempts to hold his own milk bottle.

The two-year-old elephant named Bondeni, from Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi tries to grasp the bottle of fresh warm formula milk with his trunk while holding it with his mouth.

Bondeni, who came to the Kenyan animal rescue facility as a newborn in 2019, manages to seize the bottle before dropping it and allowing his keeper to assist him.

During the video, the baby elephant drinks from the massive bottle with his trunk.

As he raises the bottle higher, his grip on it loosens, and it falls to the ground. His keeper picks up the bottle from the ground and assists him with his meal.

Bondeni arrived in the rehabilitation center in 2019 after wandering alone into a village bordering the Chyulu Hills.

The calf was found at the edge of a lava flow, with lacerations on his feet from trekking across the adjacent lava fields. He was transferred to the Kahuku Field HQ to be cared for and nursed back to health.

Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick DBE founded the Trust in 1977, which is one of Africa’s oldest wildlife charities and is most known for its elephant conservation efforts.

The charity has successfully recovered, raised, and restored more than 160 orphaned elephants back into the wild. It also collaborates with the Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Forest Service on rescue operations.

African elephants are the world’s most giant land creatures, with their long trunks and huge ears allowing them to radiate heat.

Asian Elephants are smaller than African elephants, with pale grey to brown skin and pink patches on the forehead, ears, and trunk base.
