A devoted terrier, Martha, who stayed by her late owner’s side, found a new home with the firefighter who rescued her.
Martha was discovered by firefighter James Trounson, who responded to an emergency call at a home in Breage, Cornwall. The loyal dog was found sitting next to her deceased owner, refusing to leave.
Trounson, deeply moved by Martha’s devotion, initially searched for someone to care for the eight-year-old terrier. When his search yielded no results, he decided to adopt her himself.
The firefighter, who also works as a builder, explained how Martha has become a constant companion, saying she now goes everywhere with him.
Trounson and his family already had a collie named Merlin, and they had been looking for a companion for him. Martha fit right in.
After receiving clearance from the RSPCA and local authorities, Trounson welcomed Martha into his home.
He shared that she now enjoys a new life, including baths, daily trips in the tractor, and sleeping on the bed with the family cat, Millie.
A Helston Community Fire Station spokesperson commented on the situation, saying, “Although the call had a tragic outcome, there is a positive side to it, as Martha has found a loving home.”
In the face of loss, Martha has found comfort and a fresh start with her new family.
