In the heart of a bustling city, a distressing sight unfolded—an emaciated and desperate life hidden in the crowd. This was a pregnant dog, estimated to be around nine years old, with a swollen belly and barely any strength left.

Her unusual appearance drew unwanted attention and cruel teasing from onlookers, who mistakenly thought she had a bizarre illness causing the swelling.

People even went as far as poking her with sticks and stealing her scarce food. It was unclear how long she endured this harsh reality, unable to stand or move due to sheer exhaustion, and in desperate need of intervention.

Seeing her dire condition, I decided to take action and brought her to a veterinarian for critical tests. She was in immediate need of rest and nutrition to support her unborn puppies’ development.

Any experienced mother, particularly those who have faced birthing challenges, would understand the struggle she was going through. We urgently conducted an X-ray to determine if she was indeed carrying puppies.

The results confirmed she was expecting seven pups. With this in mind, we sought further help from a sonographer and took measures to ensure her health and the safety of her unborn offspring.

After almost a week of care, her condition began to stabilize. Her appetite improved, and with better nutrition, she regained some strength. This progress allowed us to proceed with surgery.

Although hopeful, the outcome was bittersweet—six puppies were delivered, but only four showed signs of life, breathing rapidly, while the hearts of two had already stopped.

The battle was far from over, as both the mother and her puppies continued their hospital stay. Sadly, despite our relentless efforts, the mother and two puppies did not survive. We hope they find peace in their next life.

The remaining four pups are closely monitored by dedicated veterinarians. Due to their fragile state and the absence of their mother’s milk, the responsibility falls on us to provide the necessary care. Still, there is a glimmer of hope.

I believe these young pups will overcome their early hardships, and in a few weeks, they’ll be running, playing, and enjoying a joyful life.
