In recent times, an increasing number of cats and kittens find themselves abandoned and left to navigate a harsh world on their own.
Without the chance of rescue and discovering what love truly feels like, they remain unaware of the better things life has to offer.
This was exactly the situation for a young cat who was fortunate enough to be rescued just in time.
Jaina, from the group Cats of San Bernardino, shared a heartwarming account of a cat she took under her care and the incredible journey of transformation that followed.
Upon discovering the cat, named Apollo, Jaina saw that he was in dire health. Describing the initial encounter, she said, “I don’t think he’d ever had any contact with humans at all.
He was very scared. He had a very bad eye infection, so I knew he couldn’t see me.”
Apollo’s fear made it a challenge to capture him, but Jaina was determined not to give up. She realized how much the frightened feline needed her help. “I tried to reach around behind him.
But, his senses were elevated from not being able to see. As soon as he sensed I was close, he would pull back and start moving away,” she explained.
Despite what seemed like a daunting task, Jaina managed to catch Apollo. “After we’d moved back and forth, I just kinda reached in and went over top of him, and I was able to get him,” she recounted.
Captured and given a name, Apollo underwent treatment for his painful eye condition. His condition was severe enough that there were fears he might lose both eyes, but fortunately, his right eye healed, allowing him some sight.
With the appropriate care, Apollo’s health improved and his antisocial behavior, brought on by his previous experiences, began to fade. Initially, he would attempt to flee or hide from everyone, but the rescuers understood this was a normal reaction.
They gave him the time he needed to grow accustomed to his new environment.
Five months later, Apollo emerged as a transformed cat. He became a big, healthy feline with a striking blue eye and a beautiful cream-colored coat.
Not only did his physical health improve, but emotionally he became a loving and affectionate cat who relished attention.
“When you get him relaxed, you start rubbing down his back, he puts his booty in the air, and he’ll look around for more tickles,” shared Jaina happily.
Today, Apollo is active and playful, mingling with other kittens. Ivy from Cats of San Bernardino expressed, “He runs around with the kittens and things like that, so we’re really glad that he was able to do that.
The whole rewarding part is how much we invested and the result we got from that.”
Known affectionately as Pollie, this once frightened cat is now happy, loved, and relishing a comfortable life.
His story is a beacon of hope for other cats awaiting rescue, showing that with care and patience, they too can find happiness in a safe and loving home.
