Virginia Matthews, residing near a forest in Taylorsville, Mississippi, experienced a heartwarming encounter that changed her life. One day, while taking a walk, she heard unusual noises coming from the nearby woods. Curious and concerned, she ventured deeper into the forest and stumbled upon a small puppy crying for help. Despite her efforts to find the dog’s owner, it became apparent that the little pup was all alone.
Without hesitation, Matthews decided to take the puppy home. She named him Lonely. At first, the frightened pup was reluctant to let her touch him, but determined to provide him comfort and safety, Matthews gently coaxed Lonely to accompany her back to her home.
Once there, Lonely was still quite apprehensive and chose to hide under a camper trailer. Matthews was convinced that the pup had been separated from his stray mother. With kindness and patience, she provided him food, water, and even new toys and a bed. Matthews spent several days patiently earning Lonely’s trust by sitting with him and speaking softly.
After about a week, Lonely finally began to trust Matthews. He allowed her to pet him and even stayed inside during the nights. A visit to the vet confirmed that he was healthy. As Lonely gradually settled into his new home, he was gifted with a new collar and leash and began learning to use puppy pads.
Matthews, who hadn’t owned a dog in three decades, shared her journey with Lonely on TikTok. She reached out to others for advice on how to care for her new four-legged friend. It wasn’t long after Lonely’s arrival that she learned some astonishing news: a group of campers had found another puppy in the same woods two days before Matthews found Lonely. She believed this puppy to be Lonely’s sibling.
Thanks to Matthews’ unwavering care and love, Lonely’s confidence grew. He overcame his fears and started enjoying his surroundings, following Matthews everywhere she went. Matthews considers herself fortunate to have Lonely in her life, realizing the profound bond they shared.
