While on her usual drive home past highway litter and scenery, Shena spotted what appeared to be a different kind of roadside trash bag. Curiosity and a hunch led her to pull over to investigate, which turned out to be one of the best calls she ever made.
Shena felt an instinctive pull that what lay on the ground might have been something more than just refuse. As she approached, her suspicion was confirmed—it was a dog!

Nestled among the blueberry fields, a timid black Pit Bull with sorrowful eyes lay alone. The dog, frightened and injured, was hesitant to accept Shena’s help at first. Despite the dog’s attempts to escape, a wound in her hind leg prevented her from running far.
After patiently spending 30 to 40 minutes gaining the dog’s trust, Shena improvised a leash from her fanny pack strap and carefully guided the dog to her vehicle.
“When I looked into her eyes, all I saw was a plea for help. I couldn’t turn away,” Shena shared with The Dodo.

Shena took the dog to RAPS Animal Hospital, where it was confirmed that the poor animal had a broken leg, requiring surgery for her recovery.
Honoring the spot where she found her, Shena named the dog “Blueberry.” Upon checking for a microchip, they confirmed Blueberry had no registered owner. Without hesitation, Shena welcomed her into her ever-growing family of pets.
Blueberry underwent surgery just two days after her rescue and embarked on a four-month recovery journey. She proved to be an exemplary patient, defying the odds and maintaining a cheerful spirit throughout the entire healing process.

Once healed, Blueberry was back on her feet—enthusiastically running and playing like any other dog.
“Blueberry now enjoys long walks, hikes, and even indulges in hilarious zoomies around the yard,” Shena shared in an Instagram post. “She’s incredible, always up for paddleboarding and playtime with her doggie friends.”
Blueberry’s resilience and loving nature have melted hearts in her new home, where she quickly bonded with both her canine and feline companions, becoming a beloved family member.

“It’s remarkable to see how far she’s come. Despite everything she endured, she’s such a loving dog,” Shena commented to The Dodo.
We hope Blueberry continues to thrive and enjoy her adventures with Shena’s family. You can follow their journey on Shena’s Instagram for more memorable moments in Blueberry’s new life!
