From Shelter Pup to Home Depot Star: Heaven’s Heartwarming Journey

Last Update:

Heaven, a once-anxious rescue dog, has become a beloved fixture at Home Depot, where she charms customers and employees alike with her friendly demeanor and wagging tail.

Heaven’s transformation began when Jackie Rackers adopted her from the Kentucky River Area Animal Shelter.

Initially timid and fearful, Heaven was hesitant to explore the world around her. To help her adjust, Rackers started taking her on brief visits to Home Depot, a place filled with new sights, sounds, and people.

“Home Depot tours started as a way to help her deal with her fears,” Rackers shared with The Dodo. “She was afraid of new places and sounds, so we would go for five minutes, and she would get all the treats. Then we started going for longer periods, exposing her to more and more things in the store.”

These visits soon became a favorite activity for Heaven, allowing her to grow more confident and outgoing. Recognizing her good behavior, the store gifted her a custom Home Depot apron, making her an honorary employee.

“I keep it in the car so we’re always prepared,” Rackers said. “Once she realizes we’re entering the parking lot, she shakes with excitement until I put the apron on her. Then she’s ready to ‘work.’”

Heaven’s presence at the store is hard to miss. She strolls confidently through the aisles, greeting everyone with warmth. Store employees adore her, and her photo even hangs in the employee break room.

But Heaven’s real gift lies in her ability to sense when someone needs a little extra joy. “She has a way of finding people who need a laugh, a smile, or a warm heart,” Rackers explained.

“She just sits there and stares until they notice her. They often tell me how much they needed that moment. It’s as if she knows who needs her love the most.”

Rackers believes Heaven’s intuition comes from her past struggles. “She was terrified of everything, but with practice and patience, she learned to trust. Now it’s like she’s paying it forward, giving people the comfort she once needed.”

Heaven’s journey from a frightened shelter dog to a happy, confident companion is a testament to the power of love and patience.

“She’s an example of what happens when you meet someone where they are and love them unconditionally,” Rackers said. “She went from scared and sad to being the happiest dog.”
