At first, when we attempted to help Polito, he was reluctant and resistant. It required a significant amount of patience before he understood that we intended no harm.
Eventually, he allowed us to approach him. We took him to the veterinary hospital, where he remained uneasy. The harsh experiences of living on the streets had left him wary, requiring the veterinary team to proceed with caution around him.
Polito was diagnosed with transmissible venereal tumor (TVT), a disease unfortunately common among homeless animals. He needed multiple chemotherapy sessions to recover, but his healing process would involve more than just medical treatment.

His spirit appeared shattered. Polito was fearful and withdrawn, evidently hurt by a world that had let him down. At the Servivet Veterinary Clinic, he refused to eat, and his hemoglobin levels were alarmingly low.
Despite our best efforts, no food seemed to appeal to him. To ensure his survival, we carefully fed him through a syringe with a special A/D formula designed for weakened dogs, administering it gently and with care.
Then, a change began. Polito started to eat—a little at first, then more. As his appetite returned, so did a spark of joy.
He began to seek companionship, wagged his tail at familiar faces, and enjoyed human touch for perhaps the first time. The sorrow in his eyes began to fade.
Under the guidance of compassionate specialists, Polito underwent chemotherapy treatments, with at least six sessions planned to effectively combat the tumors. Throughout each session, his bravery was evident.
Many people inquired about his progress, and we are delighted to report positive news: the treatment is effective. Some of his tumors have reduced in size, and he is no longer in pain.
His strength is gradually returning, and he is regaining the weight he had lost as he starts walking again.
Although Polito still has challenges ahead, he is no longer alone. With ongoing care, love, and support, we are optimistic about his full recovery.
We are hopeful that he will finally get the chance to live a life every dog deserves—one filled with safety, love, and hope.
