Shelters across the country often face the unfortunate reality of surrendered pets. People part with their dogs for various reasons, including allergies, financial struggles, housing restrictions, or, at times, sheer disregard.

Back in 2018, Hattie’s owners brought her to a local shelter, and what made her situation unusual was a significant tumor growing on her left side.
The growth, left untreated for two years, had become a pressing concern. The compassionate team at Dallas DogRRR – Rescue.Rehab.Reform stepped in to give Hattie a chance for a better future.
Understanding the urgency of her condition, the rescue group sought the expertise of Vet Ranch, a facility dedicated to providing care for abandoned animals.
Hattie’s mobility was severely affected due to the weight of the growth, causing strain on her legs and her ability to walk. Dr. Karri at Vet Ranch was worried about potential complications involving blood vessels and muscles.
Nonetheless, even with her challenges, Hattie maintained a delightful spirit. Dr. Karri remarked on her situation, saying, “It’s just so terrible to me that she’s accustomed to simply coping with this.”
In an awe-inspiring turn of events, the veterinary team successfully removed the massive tumor, which astonishingly weighed 15 pounds, nearly half of Hattie’s total body weight.
Despite the significant changes her body had to adjust to after the surgery, Hattie, a resilient and optimistic dog, pulled through her recovery.
Her happy ending was on the horizon, as a foster home eagerly awaited her recovery, and by December 2018, Hattie found her forever home.
For those interested, Vet Ranch documented Hattie’s surgery and recovery process in a video. With the burdensome tumor out of her life, Hattie now enjoys running freely.
While she still faces some health challenges, Hattie lives a joyful, fulfilled life, surrounded by love and care.
