Seeing a dog bring new life into the world is a moment of wonder for any pet owner. The connection between a mother dog and her newborn pups is truly unforgettable.
In March, Tanya Dubbs from Pocahontas, Virginia, was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her Great Dane, Namine’s puppies. To her surprise, her two-year-old canine companion was about to make an extraordinary impression.
What happened next was truly remarkable: Namine gave birth to an astonishing 21 puppies in just under 27 hours.

Tanya and her family watched in amazement as the puppies continued to come.
Great Danes are known for their large size, and a litter of 12 to 14 puppies wouldn’t be unheard of. However, when the count surpassed 16, astonishment took over the family.
After nearly 27 hours of labor, Namine finally delivered all 21 puppies.

Unfortunately, two of the puppies didn’t survive, but Namine was left with 19 healthy little ones. Most of them weighed over a pound, although there were two that were slightly smaller, at 94 and 98 ounces each.
Caring for such a large group of puppies was no small task. Tanya diligently oversaw each feeding and used bottles to ensure every pup received adequate nourishment.
Namine’s impressive litter ranks among the largest ever seen in the U.S., though the record still belongs to Tia, a Neapolitan Mastiff, who gave birth to 24 puppies in a single litter.

The magnitude of Namine’s accomplishment is even more remarkable considering her backstory. Just a year earlier, she narrowly survived a severe accident.
One evening, Namine and her sister Malificent escaped their home, and tragically, Namine was hit by a truck, suffering injuries to her back and one eye.
“My sweet Namine and Malificent escaped this evening. Malificent came back… Namine has not. I was told that she got hit by a car,” Tanya recounted in a somber post.

In an extraordinary turn of events, Namine was found just 16 hours later and rushed to the veterinarian. Despite the incident, she made a full recovery, returning to her joyful and playful self.
With the puppies ready to leave for new homes, Tanya is preparing to find each of them a loving family.
She intends to donate part of the proceeds to the Tazewell County Animal Shelter in Bluefield, Virginia, as a gesture of gratitude to the community that supported her.

While the puppies will eventually leave, Namine is far from being lonely. She is surrounded by her human family and her fellow dog siblings, soaking in the abundant affection around her.
True to her breed, Namine possesses a natural nurturing instinct. She takes her role as a mother seriously, showering attention not just on her puppies but also any children nearby. Her gentle and caring nature is a constant presence.
From enduring a life-threatening accident to becoming the proud mother of 21, Namine’s journey is a powerful story of resilience and the enduring bond between dogs and their human families.
