Owner surrenders are a common occurrence in animal shelters across the country. Many pet owners give up their dogs for a variety of reasons, such as family allergies, financial constraints, housing restrictions, or sometimes out of insensitivity.
In 2018, a rescue group near Dallas was taken aback by the case of a dog named Hattie. Her owners had left her at a local shelter while she was burdened with a large tumor on her left side.

Recognizing the urgency of her condition, the rescue organization quickly arranged for Hattie to receive treatment at Vet Ranch, a facility that provides medical care to abandoned animals.
The veterinarians at Vet Ranch successfully removed the massive tumor, which astonishingly weighed 15 pounds—nearly half of Hattie’s total body weight.

Now free from the heavy “bean bag” of a tumor, Hattie moves with much greater ease. Though she still faces some health issues, she enjoys a fulfilling and joyful life, surrounded by love and attentive care.
