Dogs may be known as man’s best friend, but sometimes the roles reverse, as seen with Cole, a deaf therapy Pittie mix who has an entire group of best friends.
After dedicating seven years to supporting his elementary school students, Cole has truly earned legendary status. To celebrate, his young pals decided to throw him a memorable birthday bash!

A Heartfelt Tribute
Chris Hannah, a music teacher from New Jersey, adopted Cole over seven years ago, when the dog was labeled “special needs” due to his deafness. Many thought he would be too challenging to care for, but Chris saw something different.
With abundant love and support, Chris discovered that Cole was an exceptionally empathetic dog who connected deeply with human emotions, despite his hearing impairment. Just one year later, Cole was certified as a therapy dog and began making a difference at the local elementary school.
Before the celebration kicked off, Cole’s dad shared a touching message on Instagram: “Happy 8th Birthday to Daddy’s Beautiful Boy. I cannot express how proud I am to share this world with you, Cole. You are my heart, my soul, and my inspiration. Now let the celebrations begin because you deserve it, Hero.”
Then came the moment everyone was waiting for!
To Cole’s surprise, he was greeted by a crowd of students wearing party hats who were singing “Happy Birthday” in sign language! They had learned the song just for him, a beautiful gesture of gratitude for all his hard work through the years.
But the surprises didn’t end there! After the song, Cole was treated to a delicious birthday cheeseburger, rounding off his special day perfectly. The Pittie was overjoyed, displaying extra playfulness and silliness, making it a day to remember!
A Mission Beyond Therapy
Cole’s mission of helping students with special needs understand that disability is not the same as inability has become a core part of his identity. His dad commented, “We began a mission of showing the world that a disability is not an inability, and in Cole’s case, it became his superpower. It was never planned; it just happened, one incredible moment after another.”
Indeed, Cole is a true hero without a cape!
