Elephants are intelligent and social creatures known for their remarkable behavior. They can form strong bonds, similar to humans. For instance, two young orphaned elephants found comfort in each other’s presence and developed an unbreakable bond.

The sanctuary offers a natural environment that provides these majestic animals a safe and nurturing home.
Amongst the elephants who call this place their home are Chaba and her mother, who were rescued from a tourist attraction and brought to the park last year. Here, they can live and thrive in peace, away from the harsh realities of the world outside.
When Chaba was brought to the shelter, she felt uneasy about her new environment. However, her hesitation melted when she formed a close bond with another baby elephant named Pyi Mai.
Pyi Mai had also been rescued from tourism and arrived at the shelter with her mother. She approached Chaba and intertwined their trunks, giving her a loving embrace that made her feel safe and loved.
According to the park projects director, Ry Emmerson, Pyi Mai seemed to be welcoming Chaba home when they first met, and it was clear that they would become great friends.
Since then, Chaba has stopped feeling unhappy because she now has a new playmate at the sanctuary.
The two elephants are inseparable and enjoy doing things together, like playing in the water or mud and sharing meals.
Their heartwarming friendship shows how social and happy elephants can be when not kept captive and used for entertainment.
According to Emmerson, elephants communicate using sounds and physical contact. If one strays away, the other immediately calls to bring them back. Their affection towards each other is pure and unconditional, a lesson for all.
Emmerson describes them as gentle, loving, and playful, fondly calling them “double trouble.” They are always together, engaging in mischief and having fun.
