In an inspiring show of empathy and collaboration, residents came together to save a distressed donkey named Dora, trapped in a sinkhole in Granville County, North Carolina.
Overcoming the challenges posed by Dora’s large size and the depth of the sinkhole, multiple dedicated teams worked hand in hand to effect her rescue.
Responding swiftly to the call for help were local animal control, Wake Forest first responders, the Brassfield Volunteer Fire Department, and an urban search and rescue team from Raleigh, as reported by WRAL.
Rose Hockaday, a Brassfield volunteer fire department member, noted that although they commonly handle house fires and vehicle accidents, this rescue operation stood out as exceptionally extraordinary.
The rescuers ingeniously devised a tripod-like lifting arrangement. With Dora sedated throughout the operation, they skillfully raised her from the sinkhole.
The rescue process spanned about three hours, but their unwavering commitment bore fruit as they liberated the trapped donkey.
Following the rescue, Dora underwent a thorough examination by a veterinarian, who found no signs of injury.
This collective endeavor showcased an inspiring sense of unity, leaving all those involved in the rescue elated to have provided aid to a distressed animal.
