Upon their arrival, the view inside the dumpster shattered their hearts.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

At the bottom of the dumpster, the rescuers discovered a puppy tightly bound in a white trash bag, struggling to breathe and silent.

With heavy hearts but determined spirits, Reed and Cabral used a net to retrieve the bag from the dumpster.

As they carefully opened the bag, their fears escalated as they initially thought they might be too late.

“He was not moving, crying, or barking. When he finally began to breathe, they immediately contacted one of our veterinarians for urgent care,” shared Cheryl Rhoads, animal control manager at the Tullahoma Animal Shelter, with The Dodo.

The pup, later named Oscar, was rushed to the veterinary clinic, where he received crucial fluids and medications, along with a much-needed grooming session.

Initially weighing six pounds, Oscar’s weight dropped to four and a half pounds after the vets removed the severe mats from his delicate frame.

With the right care and a nurturing environment, Oscar began to thrive, both physically and emotionally.

A New Beginning

Currently, Oscar is part of an active investigation regarding his abandonment, making him unavailable for adoption despite numerous inquiries.

Fortunately, he has been placed with a caring foster family dedicated to helping him regain full health.

And he’s definitely enjoying it!

“Oscar has a bit of sass! His favorite pastime is burrowing in blankets for a nap. He enjoys being cuddled, but only on his own terms,” Rhoads mentioned.

While he’s not fond of his medications, such as eye ointments and creams for infections, he adores snuggling into soft blankets for his naps.

His rescuers are thrilled to witness his transformation from a pup fighting for his life to one relishing every moment of joy.

We remain hopeful that the investigation concludes soon, allowing him to find a forever family.

Good luck, Oscar!

A Final Note

Sadly, Oscar’s story is not unique.

Many animals face abandonment, left to survive on the streets by their owners.
