In São José dos Campos, Brazil, a dedicated animal rescuer named Esdras Andrade quickly sprang into action upon receiving a distressing video. The footage showed a family of abandoned dogs struggling on a busy road. Esdras, a self-employed protector of animals, couldn’t stand by while these innocent creatures were left to fend for themselves in such perilous circumstances.
Instead of indulging in a leisurely day, Esdras immediately set off to help the dogs. Arriving at the scene, he witnessed a heartbreaking sight—the mother dog was bravely attempting to flag down traffic in the middle of the road, desperately seeking assistance. Despite her pleas, the drivers paid her no mind, continuing on their way as if she weren’t there.
Undeterred by the dangers of the road, the mother dog persisted, willing to risk her safety in the hope that someone might stop to help her and her puppies. Sadly, her efforts went unnoticed until Esdras arrived.
When Esdras approached the puppies that were nestled in the grass, the mother dog sprang into action. Mistaking his intentions, she tried to warn him away, not realizing he was there to help them all. Esdras quickly sought to earn her trust, aware that her puppies required urgent medical care.
Observing the situation closely, it became clear to Esdras that both the mother and her pups needed prompt veterinary attention. With determination, he spent several hours securing the family and quickly transported them to a vet for an evaluation.
The puppies were in rough shape, covered in thousands of fleas, with one little pup suffering more than the others. Esdras ensured that they all received the care they so desperately needed. The vet treated them, focusing on the most severely affected puppy but providing attention to each member of the family.
Now under Esdras’s care, the mother dog and her six puppies have found refuge in a foster home. Here, they will remain together, safe and nurtured, until they are ready to be adopted into loving homes where they can begin anew.
